Race Summary

Leaf, Inc., became the major sponsor of the race with the event name changed to the Whoppers American Birkebeiner.

For the second time, the race start comes down Main Street in Hayward. To accommodate both classic and skate techniques, the course was divided with three tracks on the right half and was packed and rolled with one track available.

Four age classes were added, bring the total number of classes to 22.

Muffy Ritz became the first two-time consecutive winner.
